From research the base of competence and coping skills depends on the way the brain develops. Research further demonstrated that the wiring and sculpturing of the brain takes place during early childhood and experience during this period drives the wiring of the brain and builds its basic capabilities.

no images were found

There are critical periods when young children require appropriate stimulation for the brain to develop neural pathways for optimum development of specific capabilities. Children who do not receive the stimulation necessary for the development of specific capabilities during the critical periods, full potential will not be achieved.

Quality Early Childhood Education programs can provide essential experiences for brain development and consequently have a direct effect on cognitive abilities. These experiences can have an enduring effect on intellectual and scholastic abilities and influence future learning capacity. Good Early Childhood Education programs can also help children to develop social skills by providing a stimulating positive interaction with the environment, adults and other children.

Although individual child develops at their own pace, all children progress through a sequence of physical, cognitive and emotional growth and change. As children develop, they need different types of stimulation to exercise their evolving skills and to develop new ones. Quality Early Childhood Education program give children access to the opportunities that promote school readiness and ensure that their school experience will be successful.

The primary goal of an Early Childhood program should be to help each child reach full potential in all areas of life, develop self-esteem, and provide the experience from which knowledge is constructed. A quality program is important because it allows children to create themselves through purposeful activity during the most important years of learning. Research suggests that thought is not based purely on intellectual logic or purely on emotion. Cognition are founded on a mixture of both. Education is therefore less effective if the approach propagates the separation of the intellectual from the motivational and emotional (or “affective”) aspects of thinking. Specific actions are required to implement exercises with each pieces of material. These actions give children the opportunity for coordinating and perfecting their movements. Movements made to achieve a specific result also help children to internalize information through physical experiences and sensations.

The PAC preschool teachers and programs developed for six years children in the Bridging Class endeavour for a holistic learning environment that would allow children to gain intellectual security, self-esteem and confidence in their own intelligence. A holistic approach is especially important in the early years when the foundation for personality is still being formed. If children have a positive image about themselves as an inbuilt part of their personality, they would be more likely to be successful.

REFERENCE
Guy, Caron & Barratt, James.
